Where Athlon Sports ranks Texas in their early 2021 rankings

The Longhorns 2020 season was filled with highs and lows. Where does Athlon Sports predict that they will fall in 2021 early rankings?

This is the time of year that a multitude of media outlets attempt to project how the 2021 season will play out. The Longhorns concluded the 2020 season with two blowout wins after falling to Iowa State with a Big 12 title game berth on the line.

The administration didn’t feel as if the team was trending in the right direction when they let go of Tom Herman and replaced him with Alabama’s Steve Sarkisian. The majority of the staff, with the exception of Stan Drayton and Andre Coleman, will be new on the offensive side of the ball. That isn’t the only change, as Sam Ehlinger, Samuel Cosmi, Brennan Eagles, Tarik Black and Keaontay Ingram are now absent from Texas’ offense as well.

There’s going to be similar changes on the defensive staff as well. No word yet as to who the defensive coordinator will be, but Bo Davis, Terry Joseph and Blake Gideon will be new additions for the 2021 season. Joseph Ossai, Caden Sterns, Chris Brown and Ta’Quon Graham have each departed to the NFL. Texas must find a way to replace that production.

Athlon Sports recently released their way too early 2021 top 25 rankings and they didn’t have high hopes for the Longhorns.
