We are now officially on Saquon Barkley trade watch

It’s probably not going to happen, but the New York Giants would consider a trade involving Saquon Barkley.

The New York Giants invested heavily in Sawuon Barkley with a No. 2 overall draft pick just a few short years ago, but the franchise’s top running back is officially on the trading block. The Giants aren’t necessarily shopping Barkley around as the franchise looks to make some roster moves this offseason, but they certainly are not about to hang up the phone when another teams calls with possible interest in the former Penn State running back either.

The buzz about the Giants potentially moving Barkley is nothing new. We touched on the possibility the Giants would consider a trade involving Barkley recently. But a fresh report from Ian Rapoport at the NFL combine on Tuesday seemingly kicked things up a few notches.

“I’m open to anything,” Giants general manager Joe Schoen reportedly said, according to Rapoport. But as the NFL insider suggests, the Giants following through on any trade involving Barkley seems unlikely given his contract and injury history in his first few seasons in the NFL.

But it could happen.

It is worth monitoring the roster news out of the Giants front office this week as the NFL world gathers in Indianapolis for the NFL combine. On Wednesday, the Giants released running back Devontae Booker. No matter who the Giants end up having at the running back position in the fall, the focus seems to be on rebuilding the offensive line, and this is a franchise that needs it. Penn State fans can certainly relate to that mindset.
