The COVID-19 pandemic has kept many things from happening so far in 2020. Many businesses have closed, in-person schooling shuttered, sports put on hold, and people told to stay at home.
Part of that means many high school graduates for the class of 2020 had to settle for virtual graduations rather than the satisfying walk across the stage in front of family and friends to accept a diploma they’ve worked most of their lives for. But Ohio had a plan, another celebration that was televised on local television stations in many cities across the state.
It was called “Shoutout to Ohio’s Class of 2020,” and the keynote speaker was none other than former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. The three-time national champion coach stepped up and delivered a speech about racism, unity, and selflessness by telling the story of the 2014 season, one in which the Buckeyes overcame many obstacles to win the inaugural College Football Playoff.
