WATCH: Texas signee Johntay Cook coasts past LSU’s Javien Toviano

Some of the nation’s best corners can’t guard Johntay Cook.

On Sunday, former Longhorn Charles Omenihu pondered what we’re all thinking. How is TCU in the College Football Playoff ahead of Texas?

LSU pledge and former Texas target Javien Toviano got a little snippy in reply to Omenihu’s tweet.

Toviano then got caught in the crosshairs of Texas fans, who defended their teams honor in response. Unfortunately for Toviano, that meant that footage of Johntay Cook beating him one-on-one would surface over social media.

Toviano is an excellent player in his own right, but Cook was simply too quick for the elite corner during the one-on-one rep. It’s unclear how often the two will face each other in the SEC, but it doesn’t look like a matchup that LSU head coach Brian Kelly will relish.

The takeaway for Texas should be what a uniquely gifted receiver it has in the Desoto native. Johntay has the speed and quickness to separate that past Texas regimes never acquired. Texas has it three-fold with Cook, Ryan Niblett and DeAndre Moore, with Xavier Worthy and Brenen Thompson already on campus. Before long, the unit’s speed should overwhelm.
