A potential breakout player for Texas in 2024 is wide receiver Johntay Cook.
The former five-star recruit saw limited playing time as a true freshman in 2023 behind stars Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington, but he has the chance to become Texas’ top receiving threat this season.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned Cook by name after the Longhorns held their first spring practice on Tuesday. “I thought Johntay had a really good practice today from the naked eye without looking at the tape,” Sarkisian said. “Doing what was asked of him, made plays when the ball came his way, had really positive energy out there on the field.”
Cook will have the chance to compete alongside Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, Silas Bolden, Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore and others for a starting role this spring.
