First-person ride along with Raiders grass field tray into Allegiant Stadium

If you’ve seen a recent aerial view of Allegiant Stadium, you’ve seen the grass field tray that sits outside it. That grass lives outside most of the time. But eight to ten times per year, it travels from outside to inside for some football.

If you’ve ever wondered what that trip looks like, you’re in luck. They put out a ride-along in time-lapse. I think it’s pretty cool.

Owner Mark Davis was insistent upon the Raiders playing their games on natural grass. But usually, that requires an open-air stadium which would be problematic in the harsh Southern Nevada climate. The dome stadium with the movable grass tray solves that problem and gives the Raiders the best of both worlds.

Along with the Raiders, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas will play its games at Allegiant Stadium. However, the Runnin’ Rebels will play on synthetic turf. That grass tray is just for the Raiders.
