Watch Eli Manning go undercover at Penn State as a walk-on

Eli Manning went undercover trying out as a walk-on at Penn State, and it’s hilarious

Eli Manning made some Penn State headlines prior to the start of the college football season when he was the one who announced that punter Barney Amor had been placed on scholarship at Penn State. But it seems Manning had a few other tricks up his sleeve when he was in Happy Valley.

Manning discussed the walk-on process at Penn State with head coach James Franklin when he got the idea that he should give it a try. So the two-time Super Bowl champion got to work with a team of makeup artists to take on a possible alter ego of Chad Powers.

As Powers, Manning walks into a walk-on tryout at Penn State, chats it up with fellow walk-on candidates, and puts on a pretty solid show. It was so good, one of the football staff members said to another he thinks he sees something in Chad Powers!

The undercover bit is part of an upcoming episode of Eli’s Places on ESPN+. It is scheduled to air on Wednesday, September 21.

The following preview clip was provided to Nittany Lions Wire by ESPN.

Of course, Manning exhausted his NCAA eligibility as a standout at Ole Miss and went on to a successful career in the NFL, although it would have been fun to follow the Chad Powers story at Penn State.
