WATCH: Did Marcus Smart’s call-out make a difference for the Boston Celtics?

Can some of the Celtics’ recent success be attributed to Smart’s call-outs?

By now there likely is not a fan left of the Boston Celtics who isn’t aware of both the bad start to the 2021-22 season for the team and the post-game comments made by veteran guard Marcus Smart that singled out his two All-Star teammates Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum as a critical area to improve their games and thus the team’s fortunes.

A small sea of ink has been spilled as to whether the Flower Mound native was off base with his words or the venue and timing he chose to use them in, with at least a handful of analysts wondering more concretely whether Smart was not only right in what he said — but actually helpful in terms of accountability.

Among those analysts debating such a question is the crew of the NBC Sports Boston crew of the popular “Early Edition” show on a recent episode where the foursome try to decide whether the Oklahoma State product helped, hurt, or did not affect the fortunes of the Celtics with his words.
