Alabama has officially seen two players from the program win back-to-back Heisman Trophies: wide receiver Devonta Smith in 2020, and quarterback Bryce Young in 2021.
The Crimson Tide join Ohio State, USC and Oklahoma as the only programs to have back-to-back winners.
Smith, who was selected No. 10 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2021 NFL draft, sent a heartfelt message to Bryce Young that was accompanied by a video. It was shown at the ceremony.
In the video that lasts just over a minute long, Smith talks about similarities between the two, which were both critiqued for their size and height. However, that didn’t impact either of them on their quests to the top.
The Heisman-winning wide receiver also pointed out that Young’s first touchdown of his collegiate career was throw to Smith last year. From one Heisman to another.
