Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith stayed for his senior season, rather than joining Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III in declaring for the 2020 NFL draft and forgoing his final year of eligibility.
The move has seemingly been worth it, as he is now slated to be drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, is one of the biggest offensive weapons for the Crimson Tide and is breaking conference and program records.
In the second quarter of Alabama’s contest against Kentucky, Smith reeled in a 10-yard touchdown receptions to extend the Crimson Tide’s lead to 11, with a score of 3-14.
The catch was made off of a beautiful throw by Heisman-hopeful Mac Jones into a tight window, but Smith was able to reach out and secure the catch.
That touchdown marked No. 32 for Smith in his collegiate career, which broke fellow Alabama product Amari Cooper’s record of 31. The record stood for not just Alabama, but the SEC as a whole.
With plenty of time left in the season, plus the offseason, which Alabama is almost sure to make, who knows how many more he can come down with.
Here’s the catch that broke the record;
