WATCH: Chiefs players support Sporting KC in US Open Cup win over FC Dallas

A contingent of #Chiefs players was in attendance for Sporting KC’s epic comeback win over the FC Dallas in the US Open Cup.

Sporting Kansas City mounted a crazy comeback win over Clark Hunt’s club, FC Dallas, during the opening round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Tuesday, May 10.

Things were looking bleak for the boys in blue at halftime, down 2-0 with little going right during the first half. When they came back out for the second half, they played with an entirely renewed energy. One of Sporting KC’s players thinks they had a little help with that from some special guests in attendance.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce, WR Mecole Hardman, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire and WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling all showed up to support Sporting KC for US Open Cup. Mahomes, of course, joined the Sporting KC ownership group last July.

When Sporting KC striker Marinos Tzionis tied the game up with a brilliant goal in the 98th minute of the second half, the energy in the stadium was palpable. The reaction from Mahomes, Kelce and the rest of the Chiefs contingent was just as good too.

Sporting KC would go on to score two more points against FC Dallas during 10 minutes of extra time, advancing to the US Open Cup Round of 16. Sporting KC has won the US Open Cup four times, with their last title coming in 2017.

Given the energy that Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs’ players seemed to bring, perhaps they’ll look to attend the next matchup as well.
