If pictures are worth a thousand words, Cam Newton’s IG pic posted Thursday shows a quarterback who seems to be saying, “I’m still me,” despite the injury-limited year. The quarterback is showing the same level of style and confidence as he’s always had despite being seated in a wheelchair and wearing a walking boot.
Newton is recovering following what he calls a successful surgery on the Lisfranc injury on his left foot.
Panthers interim head coach Perry Fewell indicated Wednesday that the surgery went well and that the 30-year-old is recovering in his hometown, Atlanta.
ESPN reports that Newton underwent surgery Monday with the procedure being done by Mr. Martin O’Malley, an orthopedic specialist based in New York City.
Newton played in just two games for Carolina this season, then was ruled out for Week 3. The Panthers placed newton on IR on Nov. 3.
He thanked God for the smooth surgery and fans for their prayers in his social media post, calling the last couple nights chaotic, but finishing his post with, “The best news is knowing you only can go up from here #shinethrutheshade.”
The picture was posted just five hours after the Panthers announced that Newton is the team’s nominee for the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
