WATCH: 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong breaks down tape on Texas’ newest commit Jamel Johnson

A nice breakdown of Texas’ newest commit, Jamel Johnson.

The recruiting train for the 2023 class is just getting started for Texas.

Four-star defensive back Jamel Johnson announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Thursday, giving the Longhorns their first commit for the 2023 cycle. With Johnson, Texas now owns the No. 22 class in the nation.

The Arlington, Texas native is a big-time hitter that has been complimented about his ability to support in the run game if needed. This is something that the Longhorns clearly need, as they are one of the worst rush defenses in the nation. Johnson is also good in coverage, as he uses his larger frame to get physical with receivers.

247Sports’ recruiting expert, Steve Wiltfong, joined the broadcast after Johnson announced his commitment to break down the future Longhorn. Wiltfong raved about Johnson’s talents and what makes him an exciting player.

The Longhorns are certainly in need of players that fit the Pete Kwiatkowski mold, and it appears they have started on a high note.
