Washington downs Giants as Dustin Hopkins makes good on second chance

Dustin Hopkins’ second chance lifted Washington over the Giants

The Washington Football Team had lost.

Then, it hadn’t.

Thanks to an offside penalty called on New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, Dustin Hopkins got another chance after missing a 48-yard field goal as time expired Thursday.

Hopkins tried again, this time from 43 yards, and the kick snuck inside the upright and the Washington Football Team stole a 30-29 victory from the Giants as time expired.

The offside penalty was the second on New York on Washington’s game-winning drive.

Taylor Heinicke directed the march that wound up good for 50 yards on 11 plays in the final two minutes.

New York had taken the lead on a 35-yard field goal before Washington went on its game-winning march.

Washington is 1-1 and the Giants are 0-2.
