Walker Howard commits to SEC West rival

Howard is joining Lane Kiffin in Oxford.

Former LSU quarterback [autotag]Walker Howard[/autotag] is heading to Ole Miss to join Lane Kiffin, the true freshman passer announced on Wednesday.

Howard, a native of Lafayette who attended St. Thomas More High School, redshirted during his first season in Baton Rouge after playing in just two games. Following the year, he opted to enter the transfer portal with four remaining years of eligibility.

The Rebels received a visit from Howard this week, as did TCU. Florida didn’t get Howard on campus, though it did recruit him and sent offensive coordinator Rob Sale to visit his home in Lafayette. It seems Howard will be remaining in the SEC West after all.

Howard has far from a clear path to starting in Oxford, Mississippi. Ole Miss returns quarterback Jaxson Dart, a USC transfer who started this season. He struggled at times but still seems poised to retain the job heading into 2023. He and Howard will battle it out this offseason.
