Vikings take Big Ten pass rusher in Sporting News mock draft

Getting a pass rusher with a high-upside that can learn in a rotational role would be a great option for the Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings have multiple question marks on their roster. They only have three cornerbacks on the roster, multiple veterans could be cut within the next few days and they need to address the wide receiver position as well.

Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News went a different direction and it’s one that the Vikings would be smart to look into by taking an edge rusher. He sent the Vikings Iowa edge rusher Lukas Van Ness in his latest mock draft.

Van Ness impressed by running well for his size at the Combine as a good later first-round value that offers that massive frame of Wilson. His versatility in the front seven is a perfect fit for new defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Getting a pass rusher is a good idea considering both Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith might not be with the Vikings after the 2023 season. Van Ness is a bull in a china shop with a lot of potential, but needs refining. Without having to be a standout contributor immediately, that would afford him the ability to learn how to be a more complete player.
