Vikings make massive move in latest CBS Sports mock draft

Should the Vikings trade up to 3rd overall to select Drake Maye? CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards thinks so

The Minnesota Vikings are in a pickle when it comes to their quarterback position, both in the immediate and in the very near future. As it stands today, Kirk Cousins still is not under contract for the 2024 NFL season. If the Vikings want to bring him back, they still have to realize that he’s an aging QB coming off an injury. They need their quarterback of the future.

And that’s is exactly what Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has the Vikings realizing in his latest mock draft — in a big way. Edwards has the Vikings pulling off a trade with the New England Patriots for the third pick in the draft to take North Carolina QB Drake Maye. Here’s what Edwards has to say on the selection:

Minnesota has perused the rookie quarterback market over the past few years and has not been in a position to pounce. I tend to think New England WILL draft a quarterback, but the possibility that it is not in love with the quarterback prospects available has to be considered. In this instance, the Patriots give the Vikings the heir apparent to Kirk Cousins.

Pulling off a trade for the third pick in the NFL Draft would be a bold move for the Vikings. One that I’m not sure general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would be willing to make. If he were to give up the assets needed to make that move and picks the wrong quarterback, he’s sealing his fate.

However, if he were to make the move and make the right pick, no one will care what the Vikings gave up to get there. When you have a true franchise quarterback at the helm, it makes the price much easier to swallow. Is Maye that guy? If the Vikings think so, then they should move to get him.
