Video of Steelers new TE Eric Ebron shows ‘ankle great’

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Eric Ebron took to Instagram to show fans that his ankle is doing just fine.

Steelers fans who have read up on tight end Eric Ebron’s career since he signed with the Steelers in March are aware that his 2019 season was cut short due to a nagging ankle injury.

Ebron made the decision — not the Indianapolis Colts — to undergo ankle surgery.

Ebron addressed his decision in a November Tweet:

In a recent interview with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, Ebron said that he played with the pain as long as he could.

“All I know is I’ve had the (ankle) injury since Aug. 4 and I played through an injury till the time I said I couldn’t do it any longer,” Ebron said. “It was simply my choice from my health standpoint. I made that choice. I went and told [the Colts] I was making that choice a week before I made that choice. It’s not my job to explain the story. I was hurt. Nobody likes to play hurt.”

Via an Instagram story on Tuesday, Ebron posted footage of him performing box jumps. The added text read, “ankle great”.

Ahead of him signing with the team, Ebron had a doctor in Texas perform his physical. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has yet to be examined by the Steelers but they were satisfied enough with his evaluation to move forward with a two-year, $12 million contract.

A former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2014, Ebron spent the last two seasons with the Colts. Ebron’s inconsistent play and penchant for drops have caused frustration among both teams’ fans during his first six seasons, but there is hope that the tight end can somehow recapture his career-high 2018 season with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at the helm.
