Erika Brown named SEC Swimmer of the Week
The Tennessee Volunteers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams had a fantastic showing at last weekend’s Tennessee Invitational, where personal bests and team records were being set at a furious pace. The one name that truly stood out from the meet was senior swimmer Erika Brown, whose performance earned her the SEC Swimmer of the Week award.
The honor is Brown’s second of her senior season, having also earned it four times last season and thrice the year before. Associate head coach Ashley Jahn had the following to say about Brown.
“Erika is consistently searching for ways to improve and she rises to every challenge. The brighter the lights, the bigger the challenge, the better she gets. She finds joy in that process and in the team. She is a dedicated teammate and it’s really fun to watch her success.”
Brown participated in six individual events – 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter freestyles, 100 meter butterfly, 100 meter backstroke and 200 meter individual medley – earning automatic qualifying times in the 50, 100 and 200 free and in the 100 fly; she also notched NCAA B-cut times in the 100 back and 200 IM. Her biggest mark was the 100 butterfly, in which she posted a 49.79, which is the No. 1 time nationally and made her the events fourth-fastest performer ever.
