Chris Weinke named to join Florida Sports Hall of Fame
Tennessee quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke has been announced as a member of the 2019 Florida Sports Hall of Fame class, one of 11 inductees bestowed with the honor.
Weinke won a national championship in 1999 and the Heisman Trophy with Florida State back in 2000 — at the age of 28 — and played seven years in the NFL. Prior to his football career, he played in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system for six years, hence his advanced age when he earned his accolades.
The former quarterback began his coaching career with the Rams before moving to the amateur level as the program director at IMG Academy. He worked as an offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2017, then came to Knoxville in 2018 to serve as the running backs coach before settling in as quarterbacks coach this season.
