Urban Meyer to the NFL?

Could the NFL lure Urban Meyer back into coaching? According to reports, several NFL teams have picked up the phone to inquire.

Urban Meyer last coached football in 2018, but that hasn’t stopped the endless rumors of a return to the sidelines for the former Ohio State Football coach.

First, it was USC courting Meyer. Then we heard his name linked to the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorn brass even flew him in to talk specifics but ultimately, Meyer turned down the offer in early December.

Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that several NFL teams have reached out to Meyer about his interest in coaching at the next level. According to Schefter, a source connected to one of those teams said that Meyer did not dismiss the idea and is considering whether to make the jump to the NFL or stay retired from coaching.

Meyer always seems to leave the door cracked at the possibility of a return to the sidelines. Knowing the coach’s competitive drive, there may still be something stirring inside to see if he has what it takes to coach at the highest level.

It would be fascinating to see Meyer, who has a degree in psychology, take on the NFL challenges of managing professional players. Many have tried before to make the jump from the college ranks to the NFL. Few have had much success.

It’ll be interesting to see if there is any serious movement going forward or if Meyer is just allowing the ego to be stroked. Stay tuned..[lawrence-related id=43066]
