There’s been a lot of people provide opinions on whether or not we’ll have Ohio State football this fall, or college football in general with all the spiking numbers we’re seeing with the COVID-19 pandemic. And frankly, they are all over the place. Things were looking very optimistic a few weeks ago, but many now believe that we’ll be lucky to see games happen now in 2020. In other words, the optimism has faded for most.
But not former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.
He still believes there is a good chance that we’ll all enjoy some semblance of college football despite what’s going on in the world today. While appearing on FOX News, Meyer was shockingly, rather adamant about where he was in his opinion of having a season.
“Two weeks ago, yes,” said Meyer. “Last week, medium. I’m back to yes. We’re going to play. We’re going to play. I’ve just got so much confidence the way these universities are handling this right now. I love the fact that we went conference-only, because they can have control over the protocol, and start-stop dates, etc. I’m optimistic right now.”
When asked what changed to make him more confident again, Meyer showed confidence in all the folks working through the issues.
“What really changed for me is the conference-only games,” Meyer said. “I didn’t say every conference is going to play. I didn’t say every team is going to play. I said we’re going to play college football. I really believe that conferences, presidents, ADs, and the commissioner are going to work together with the head coaches, and they’re going to work this thing out. I just have a lot of confidence in our scientists — the team doctors – I really do. I’ve talked with a few of my colleagues that I’m really close with and I really believe we’re going to get that done.”

I think that Meyer is in the minority at this point, but there’s nothing wrong with having some optimism. We too hope there’s some sort of a college football season, and we could all use a little dose of positive thinking with where things are in the world today.
