The Tigers earned a convincing 38-0 shutout over New Mexico on Saturday, but they did not emerge unscathed. A number of key players left the game with injuries (or missed it entirely).
[autotag]Major Burns[/autotag] didn’t play, and he won’t against Auburn in Week 5, either, as he’s set to miss 3-6 weeks as he’s dealing with a neck injury. But [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] updated the injury situation on Monday, and the news is much more encouraging for several other players.
Arguably the most important one is quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who left in the third quarter with a lower back injury. He didn’t return despite being cleared, and Kelly said he has no residuals from the injury and should be practicing this week. It seems likely he will be available on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Tigers’ starting nickel [autotag]Jay Ward[/autotag] missed the game but is expected to return to practice on Tuesday and should be cleared on Saturday, barring any setbacks. Running back [autotag]Armoni Goodwin[/autotag] is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury, but there’s a chance he plays, as well.
Kelly didn’t update BJ Ojulari’s status, but the edge rusher seems to have been held out against the Lobos as a precaution. It would be surprising if he didn’t suit up against Auburn.
