UNC QB Drake Maye talks about possibility of being drafted by Patriots

Top QB prospect Drake Maye loves the history in New England

The New England Patriots hold the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and University of North Carolina star quarterback Drake Maye could very well be within reach of the organization.

Maye, who recently spoke with the Patriots, was asked about the possibility of being drafted by the team, and he had glowing reviews of the organization, when appearing on “The Adam Schefter Podcast,” as transcribed by WEEI’s Mike Kadlick.

“New England, I mean, it’s hard not to talk about The Dynasty,” said Maye. “You know, you think of the GOAT. That’s what you think of when you think of New England you think of the GOAT, Tom Brady. So, just a place with— that’s had a lot of success and had some years lately that they haven’t been as successful and looking to get back on track and I know that’s, you know, right there near Boston.

“These are three great sports towns you’re talking about now. So, all great places to play and, you know, I think a great spot to be a, you know, franchise quarterback at and that’s what I’m working towards.”

Maye had a stellar season for the Tar Heels in 2023. He tallied 3,600 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions on the year. He has been grouped, along with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, as a potential option for the Patriots at No. 3.

The Patriots need a playmaker at the quarterback position, and Maye would undoubtedly fit the bill. Time will tell what the organization does, but drafting a player like Maye would certainly be a step in the right direction.
