After last week saw Tennessee beat Alabama and become a legitimate national title contender in a game of the year candidate, this week’s USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is fairly stable with the top six teams remaining the same.
Georgia remains No. 1, and the Ohio State Buckeyes hang in there at No. 2. Tennessee moves up to third ahead of the Michigan Wolverines, while Clemson is still No. 5 after escaping a defeat at the hands of the now 16th-ranked Syracuse Orange.
The rest of the top 10 is where the first few Big 12 teams show themselves as TCU moves to No. 7 after their win over Kansas State and Ole Miss’ loss to LSU. Oklahoma State jumps back into the top 10 to No. 9 after beating a formerly ranked Texas team at home Saturday afternoon.
That Texas team was ranked No. 21 but fell out of the top 25 altogether. The Longhorns landed just outside the top 25 receiving the most votes of unranked teams.
Elsewhere, Kansas State, who gave Oklahoma its first loss of the season, dropped from 17th to 22nd after losing to the Horned Frogs.
In related news, former Oklahoma Sooners’ Shane Beamer, Spencer Rattler, and Austin Stogner moved into the top 25 after their win over Texas A&M.
Oklahoma returns to action next week against the Iowa State Cyclones when they make the trip to Ames to take on Matt Campbell’s team.
