The destination which one of Oklahoma’s top running backs is heading to has been revealed.
Trey Sermon announced his shocking intentions to transfer from the Sooners just over a week ago after reports started to get out about his impending transfer. A three-year starter for Oklahoma, Sermon is coming off a knee injury suffered late in the 2019 season and would be splitting carries with Kennedy Brooks and Rhamondre Stevenson in 2020.

According to a report from Ohio State website Letterman Row, Sermon has confirmed to them that he will be transferring to play for the Buckeyes.

The former Oklahoma running back has already familiarized himself with Ohio State back in 2017. As a true freshman and his second ever college football game, Sermon caught the touchdown to give Oklahoma a 24-13 lead on the road in Columbus, Ohio, as well as breaking off long runs late in the game to seal the Sooners win.
“It’s kind of crazy to look back and believe that the place where I scored my first touchdown is where I’m going to be spending my final year of college football,” Sermon told Letterman Row in the report. “I’m excited for this opportunity, I’m excited to just be with the team and I’m excited to connect with the guys.
“I just believe it’s the best situation for me. I know that I have the opportunity to play there considering the depth, and I had a relationship with [running backs coach Tony] Alford during my recruiting process coming out of high school. He was a great guy then, and I just feel like I connected well with him. I know I’m going to have to go in and compete for the job, but I feel like it’s the best situation for me to go into now.”
During his time at Oklahoma, Sermon accounted for over 2400 total yards and 25 touchdowns and made an impact in numerous games. In the 2019 season, though, his carries oddly dropped after the fifth game of the season from 45 to eight in the next four.
“It was a little difficult [with travel restricted], but it was kind of good at the same time,” Sermon told Letterman Row. “I didn’t get to see many places, but with that being said, I’ve been to Columbus before and I definitely remember my experience there. So, I guess that kind of made it easier for me to decide.
“There are definitely similarities with the offense, and that’s kind of what helped my decision as well going into an offense that is pretty similar. That way I just have to learn the terminology, and just the [experience] understanding the game helps as well. I talked to Coach Day a little bit as well, he seems like a great guy. Just based off our conversations that we had and texting back and forth, I’m just excited to play for him.”
The Sooners will rely on Brooks, Stevenson and the trio of T.J. Pledger, Marcus Major and true freshman Seth McGowan to fill the void of Sermon.
