All-around Comparison: Allen Lazard
Lazard went undrafted in 2018 despite dominating during his career at Iowa State and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After not making the final cuts with Jacksonville, the Jaguars placed him on their practice squad. He was snatched by the Green Bay Packers where he has been ever since.
Lazard is a similar style player to Grimes, but he was a better prospect coming out of Iowa State. Lazard was a four-year starter, two-time captain and left school as its all-time leading receiver. Grimes really only has one year of statistical significance after not seeing the field much during his first three collegiate seasons.
They do have a few similarities, including their play-making attitude and aggressive style, which has allowed both to succeed in contested catch situations. Both struggle to create separation as well and that no doubt played a huge role in Lazard going undrafted in 2018. He has outplayed that projection though, and that should help Grimes potentially hear his name called.
The Eagles haven’t signed a receiver yet, and obviously they didn’t have the cap to do so. I would consider taking a shot on Allen Lazard. pic.twitter.com/qIy4E6BnPf
