It was a busy weekend for the Texas football program.
Just hours after Tom Herman was terminated, the school announced the hiring of Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian as its new head football coach.
Sarkisian will coach in the national championship game for Alabama on Monday, Jan. 11. He expects to be in Austin immediately following the game to officially begin his coaching career on the Forty Acres.
It’s easy to see why Texas is ecstatic about Sarkisian — he has experience as a head coach, has a history of developing top quarterbacks, recruits well on the offensive side of the ball and the Crimson Tide’s offense averaged 49.7 points per game and 543.9 yards of total offense for game, both top five in the country.
While he does have his work cut out for him, Sarkisian is inheriting one of the most talented rosters in the country. He turned down several other job offers, but he felt Texas had the right resources in place to compete for championships right away.
Take a look at a few of the most memorable quotes from Sarkisian’s first media availability with Texas.
