No. 5- Tom Herman’s attitude and arrogance
If there is one thing that can drive a wedge between a head coach and a fan base, it has everything to do with your demeanor. With Tom Herman, he comes off as arrogant and one who believes that he is the smartest man in the room. There is a reason that he is called ‘mensa’ and it doesn’t come in a complementary fashion.
The best coaches, bosses, and leaders listen to those around them. There has never been any indication that he is one that does that. Another aspect that has turned the fan base off of the head coach is his attitude on camera. In his first bowl game as the Longhorns head coach, he can be seen on camera mocking quarterback Drew Lock’s celebration on the field. Is that any way for the head coach of a top program to behave?
During the 2019 early signing period, Herman gave the cameras for the Longhorn Network the double bird salute. Herman later apologized for the incident and stated that he wasn’t aware that the cameras were rolling. One could buy that excuse for someone half his age but at what point is he going to start acting like an adult?
