TJ Finley finds landing spot with Auburn

TJ Finley has found his next college football home.

Former LSU quarterback TJ Finley has been in the transfer portal during this offseason, and he announced via Twitter on Monday he will join the Auburn Tigers for the 2021 season.

“I felt like God led me to do this,” Finley told 247Sports. “It was the best situation for me as a quarterback.”

Finley started five games for the Tigers last season following a Myles Brennan’s abdominal injury. He threw for 941 yards, scored five touchdowns and threw five interceptions.

Two of his strongest performances were against Arkansas and South Carolina. Against Arkansas, he threw for 371 yards and scored two touchdowns. Against South Carolina, he threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

Finley would be battling for a starting spot had he stayed with the Tigers, but he also will be battling for a starting spot at Auburn. Bo Nix has been Auburn’s starting quarterback the last two seasons.

However, Nix will be under a new head coach which will level playing field as Auburn switches to a brand new system.

“Not saying they’re promising me anything, but it’s promising as far as the future,” Finley told AL.com earlier in the month. “It’s basically that I can come in and compete for the starting job, and if I were good enough to be the No. 1 guy, I would be the No. 1 guy.”

How things shake out for Finley will be something to keep an eye on.
