Titans’ Derrick Henry reacts to reaching 2,000-yard mark

Henry remained humble after securing a 2,000-yard season.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry put himself in a very special group on Sunday, as his 250 yards in the Week 17 win over the Houston Texans put him in the 2,000-yard club.

Henry joins seven other running backs to accomplish the feat in NFL history, and he’s the first to do so since Adrian Peterson ran for 2,097 yards in 2012 with the Minnesota Vikings.

After the game, Henry said nothing about himself and instead gave all the praise to his teammates, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“I’m just thankful for my teammates,” Henry said after the game. “Thankful for all of them, you know, week in and week out, you know, them doing their job. Just the unselfishness that they have for my success, I’m very thankful. Thank God for my teammates. I pray for those guys every day, all the guys I go to work with.

“Just a great job this year, and glad we were able to keep on playing. I just had to go out there and do my job.”

We shouldn’t be surprised at Henry’s response, as the Titans star rusher is always humble, whether he lights up the box score or not.

Right tackle Dennis Kelly said Henry’s 2,000-yard season is something he’ll look back on long after his playing days are over.

“It’s something when you are older, and done playing, and you are able to talk to your kids, (this) is something I will be able to look back on,” Kelly said. “Instantly we have this bond, that we all accomplished this together. It will be impossible to forget.”

With Henry’s 2,000-yard season, the Titans now have two of the eight players to hit the milestone, with the other being Chris Johnson, who ran for 2,006 yards back in 2009. Tennessee is the only franchise to have two 2,000-yard rushers.

The Alabama product has also officially secured his second straight rushing title, and he’s the first to do that since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006-07.
