Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has been put in the position of being Buffalo’s top running after last season’s leading rusher, Devin Singletary, signed with the Houston Texans in the offseason.
So far in 2023, Cook has had two performances that were polar opposites of each other.
However, the way that Cook played in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders led the Bills’ All-time rushing leader and Hall-of-Famer Thurman Thomas to heap praise upon Cook. On Sunday, Cook ran 17 times for 123 yards (7.23 yards per carry) and caught four passes for 36 yards (yards per reception) in Buffalo’s impressive 38-10 win over the Raiders.
Through two weeks, Cook is fifth in the league in rushing yards with 169 and seventh in yards per carry at 5.8. If Buffalo is going to make noise in the playoffs and hopefully get to the Super Bowl, Cook will need to have more days like he did against Las Vegas to take the running burden off of quarterback Josh Allen.
Thomas had this to say about Cook during his appearance on One Bills Live on Wednesday:
“I just love the fact that he (Cook) was out there, got over 100 yards, and came out. (He) snapped off a big run and I was like, this is it.”
