Three ways Texas can win the Big 12 in 2020

Texas is expected to play in the Big 12 championship in 2020. Once in the game, winning it would be a plus too. Here is how they can do it.

Another great season from Sam Ehlinger

Entering his senior year, this will be the third season where Ehlinger is the full-time starter for the Longhorns. In 2019, he was the guy who determined how well the Longhorns played. When he was on his game, Texas was successful and more than likely pulled out the win. When he struggled, so did the Longhorns, losing five games this season.

Improving in total passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage year to year, if that trend can continue into next season, Ehlinger has the chance to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Passing for 3,663 yards and 32 touchdowns while completing 65% of this passes last season, any sort of improvement will take the Texas offense to another level.

New offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich has coached some of the best in the college game before, most recently with Justin Fields in his one season at Ohio State. Being able to use his feet is another strength that makes Ehlinger a threat to defenses. If nothing is open downfield to his wide receivers, he has the ability to scramble and gain chunks of yards that way.

In his final season in Austin, Ehlinger has the chance to lead Texas to a place they have not been since 2009. The winner’s side of the Big 12 Championship game. If he can raise his level for the fourth and final time, Texas will be at the level they are expected to be at.
