Three ways Texas can win the Big 12 in 2020

Texas is expected to play in the Big 12 championship in 2020. Once in the game, winning it would be a plus too. Here is how they can do it.

Beat both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State

As it is every year, Texas will face Oklahoma in Dallas for the Red River Shootout in the Cotton Bowl. The difference this year is that the Longhorns are more than likely going to be the more experienced team this season. For the senior class, this will be their fifth career game against the Sooners, currently with a 1-3 record.

With Oklahoma expected at the top of the conference again, picking up a win in October would be huge for the Longhorns. Besides the fact that Texas will win their main rivalry game, getting a leg up on the best team in the conference has proven beneficial before.

Seven weeks later, Texas will travel to Stillwater to close out their regular season against Oklahoma State. In what is an odd and unusual season finale, it has the potential to decide a spot in the Big 12 championship game. With the offensive firepower the Cowboys have returning next season, they will be a popular pick in the conference next season.

Not winning on the road against the Pokes since 2014, Tom Herman is 0-2 vs Mike Gundy at Boone Pickens Stadiums. A win against Oklahoma State next season not only would bring momentum going into whatever postseason games they participate in, but it could be crucial in the standings.

The top of the conference will more than likely be Texas and both of the Oklahoma schools next season. Picking up wins against both of them would go a far way towards the goal of winning the Big 12.
