Three takeaways from Oklahoma’s 62-57 loss against Kansas State in Manhattan

Three immediate takeaways from Oklahoma’s 62-57 upset loss to Kansas State on Tuesday night in Manhattan.

Austin Reaves costly technical

Austin Reaves is incredibly important to this time in a variety of ways and that is especially so on the road. They need to him to be on the floor as much as possible.

In the first half, after committing a foul on a driving Kansas State player, Reaves said something that the nearby official did not like and assigned him a technical. Removing the fact it gave the Wildcats two free points, it suddenly saddled Reaves with two fouls and took him off of the floor for the remainder of the half.

Kansas State was hanging close in the game anyway, but not having him out there certainly made it a lot more difficult for the Sooners to create any space and was a big reason why the game was tied at halftime. Conversely, he was instrumental in the second half of this game as the best player on the floor. – but it was still wasn’t enough late.

Reaves doesn’t normally have issues in this department so it would be silly to think it could be a problem going forward in the big games coming up, but it should be something the team needs to be careful about in the huge games ahead. You always want to have your best guys out there, self-inflicted wounds can be costly in a big game if you aren’t careful .
