With any loss in the game of football it falls at the feet of the head coach. However, this one especially does. It feels like the same song on repeat week in and week out. This football team seems unprepared and undisciplined, especially in all three games to start Big 12 Conference play. You could also point to Chris Ash’s unit that blew assignments and overall couldn’t do enough to slow down this team in overtime.

When the team was down by two score, Tom Herman burned all three of his timeouts to conserve clock. This forced the Longhorns to kick an onside kick with over three minutes in the game after Texas got within seven of Oklahoma. Had it not been for a questionable call by Riley to throw on third down when they were burning clock, it might have been a different outcome. Mainly a loss in regulation.

The broken record for this team has been their discipline. Whether that is a block in the back on a return, false starts or just bonehead plays. This team does the little things that puts them in even more difficult situations. The Longhorns had to punt in one situation after getting a false start penalty when they were looking to go for it on fourth down. Another instance that comes to mind is the late hit call on Derek Kerstetter that took going for it on forth down to score a touchdown off the table.

Those plays start to add up and can be the difference in victory or defeat. This team discusses being more disciplined each week but their actions on the field show differently. That is coaching. Not to mention this marked the seventh time Herman lost to an unranked opponent and fell to 1-12 after trailing in the fourth quarter.
