Three reasons Texas lost to Arkansas

Texas’ momentum came to a screeching halt against Arkansas. Here are three reasons the Longhorns lost on Saturday night.

Dominated at the line of scrimmage

Arkansas’ Twitter account trolled Texas with the final score graphic, saying “Welcome to the league.” While it may have been an attempt to get a laugh, the Longhorns got a wake-up call from the SEC, especially on the line of scrimmage.

Let’s start with the offensive line. Whenever a team is able to get pressure by only sending three, you’re in trouble. Arkansas’ pass rush was so good, they could drop seven or eight and still force Hudson Card into uncomfortable situations. Casey Thompson helped defuse the pressure late by scrambling.

Bijan Robinson was not getting any help either. As good as the running back is, nobody was going to have a solid performance with that offensive line play.

Moving to the defensive line where it was not much better. Before the game, we asked Razorbacks Wire if Arkansas’ offensive line would be able to have success. “It’s wait and see” was the response, implying Texas was going to hold the advantage.

Well, we saw. If there was a push, it was the Longhorns’ front three or four going backward. Texas ended the night with 6.5 tackles for a loss and no sacks. Arkansas and K.J. Jefferson was able to do whatever he wanted.

If the move to the SEC is really going to happen in 2022, Saturday was the sign of things to come. Texas was bullied on the line of scrimmage from beginning to end.
