This Gator named Running Back of the Week after Vols victory

Trevor Etienne is the Doak Walker Running Back of the Week after rushing for a career-high 172 yards against Tennessee.

The Florida Gators (2-1) held their ground last Saturday night and upset the Tennessee Volunteers (2-1) at home Volunteers at home, but not before running them over with a two-headed rushing attack.

Sophomore [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag] led the way out of the backfield, rushing for a career-high 172 yards on an astounding 23 carries. For his efforts, Etienne was rewarded the Doak Walker Running Back of the Week Award — an extension of the yearly award given out at the end of the season.

Etienne was dangerous when fed the rock, averaging 7.2 yards a carry and recorded five explosive plays of at least 10 yards or more. The true sophomore’s previous career high took place in last season’s matchup against the Florida State Seminoles when he rushed for 129 yards.

Etienne’s biggest play came in the first quarter against Tennessee: finding a hole, breaking two tackles beyond the first down marker, and finding nothing but green grass on his way to a score.

Experts at Pro Football Focus graded the sophomore’s performance with a 75.1, the second best on the Florida Gators.

Etienne and the Florida Gators will look to keep the ball rolling against the Charlotte 49ers (1-2) on Saturday at home. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. EDT on SEC Network+.
