4. Zac Thomas (Appalachian State)
Appalachian State is one of the scariest teams on the Badgers’ 2020 schedule.
Although it’s challenging for teams to come in and win in Camp Randall, the Mountaineers are coming off a 13-1 season which landed them at No. 19 in the postseason AP Poll and have won a total of 54 games over the last five years.
Their leader on offense, quarterback Zac Thomas, threw for more than 2700 yards, 8.4 AY/A and 28 touchdowns last year during his junior season after being named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year in 2018.
Thomas is a veteran quarterback with two years of success at the college level who will no doubt pose a challenge for the Badgers come September.
Is he better than Coan? No, I wouldn’t go that far. But he helps the Mountaineers pose a sneaky threat to the Badgers in their early season out-of-conference schedule.
