The Ringer mocks LaMelo Ball second overall to Cleveland Cavaliers in 2020 NBA Draft

The Cleveland Cavaliers could draft their third guard in the third consecutive season by taking LaMelo Ball in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The Ringer’s latest 2020 NBA mock draft from Kevin O’Connor had an interesting landing spot for LaMelo Ball. While Ball remained near the top of the draft, going second overall, the destination was a different one in the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavs haven’t been a common landing spot for Ball in mock drafts nor has it been one he’s been rumored to often. The Cavaliers have taken lead guards in each of the last two drafts in Collin Sexton and Darius Garland. Ball would only add to the logjam in the backcourt for the Cavaliers and would likely force one of the three guard prospects to be traded.

While there hasn’t been much traction projecting Ball to Cleveland, there has been traction from the Cavs. Cleveland has reportedly extensively scouted Ball during his time in the NBL. From their standpoint, drafting the best player available may be the option to take and Ball could be the best player available depending on where the Cavs land in the draft lottery.
