The outlook of Texas’ quarterback room if Arch Manning commits

Texas could have one of the most loaded quarterback rooms soon.

After a decade long drought of inferior quarterback play, with a dash of consistency from Sam Ehlinger, Texas is in position to have the best quarterback room they have ever had.

That is quite the statement to make, and the Longhorns have yet to add all the pieces to the puzzle, but it is certainly a possibility.

After yet another season of inconsistent quarterback play from both Casey Thompson (now at Nebraska) and Hudson Card, Texas’ quarterback room has two new young guns pushing for the starting spot in Quinn Ewers and Maalik Murphy. As it stands, Hudson Card is the most experienced quarterback on the roster, but he is by no means the clear cut favorite to win the job.

Similar to last season, Steve Sarkisian will have a very competitive quarterback battle on his hands, and this one may be even tougher to decide than the last. Card will have to fight off quarterback prodigy and former No. 1 overall recruit Ewers, who many view as the hands down favorite to win the job. Murphy is recovering from an injury, and still needs to develop at the moment.

In 2021 it was evident that Sarkisian felt Card had an edge over Thompson at first, but did not fully commit to him as they split time in the first game and quickly pulled Card against Arkansas and started Thompson the rest of the way.

Even before knowing how this season will go, and who will win the starting job, many fans and media members are looking forward to Texas’ quarterback room in 2023. The is primarily centered around Texas’ chances to land the nation’s No. 1 overall player and five-star quarterback, Arch Manning.

This leads to many pondering what the Texas quarterback room could look like in 2023. Here is a breakdown of what the quarterback situation may be if Manning decides to join the team.
