St. Anthony is an interesting and sad tale. For nearly 40 years, the Friars were the benchmark of basketball greatness. The program had the most titles in high school basketball history—28 state championships and four national titles. Over 150 of the team’s athletes went on to play D-1 basketball. The Friars were the focus of the book The Street Stops Here, which also was adapted as a 2011 documentaryAnd coach Bob Hurley–who is the father of Bobby Hurley—is a legend: He is one of only three high school coaches in the Hall of Fame. But due to funding, the school closed its doors in 2017.
