The backup QB battle between Arch Manning and Maalik Murphy lives on

Texas fans will have to wait and see.

While many programs across the country are just happy to know who their starting quarterback is, Texas fans have gotten to a point where they want to know who the backup is.

When speaking to the media on Thursday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked who would be the first guy off the bench at quarterback. A question that Sarkisian had initially put off until Thursday hoping one would separate himself, but one that he still doesn’t have an answer for.

The battle between true freshman Arch Manning and redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy is one that has yet to be decided. Truly a good problem to have when you consider Texas has had major issues in the past finding quality quarterback play, and now they appear to have three starting caliber quarterbacks.

Sarkisian also said he plans to release a depth chart sometime before the season opener against Rice, but knowing him it would likely just have the infamous “or” between their names. Truly the only way to find out now is to wait and see who comes in first against Rice assuming Texas is in a position to play some reserves.
