The 2020 NFL Draft is destined to let us down, right?

I hope I’m wrong!

We’re all absolutely starving for sports right now so I hope I’m wrong here but I really think the 2020 NFL Draft, which starts tonight with a virtual first round, is going to let us all down.

Again, I pray that I’m wrong because I can’t wait to watch something that is new and live. We haven’t had that in our sporting lives for so long and there’s just so many old games and events that you can watch until your cravings for something new reaches anxiety inducing levels.

I feel because of that we are putting way too much pressure on this NFL draft to be everything we need it – heck, I saw one story on Wednesday saying this draft is going to be our Super Bowl.

Yeah, I don’t think so.

I think unfortunately we’re quickly going to be reminded about what the NFL draft really is – just a long, drawn out, overly dramatic reading of names. This always includes a lot of names most of us don’t even know because – and be honest – do you even know who the top 5 offensive tackles are in the is draft?

I bring up offensive tackles because on Wednesday I saw NFL Network’s Ian Rapport report that “we could see a run on tackles in the Top 10 like never before.”

Ugh.

That would be a very rough way to kick things off, right? Though I am going to miss the shots of fans going nuts after their team picked some OT that they’ve never heard of. Those are always fan.

We know who the No. 1 pick is going to be – former LSU QB Joe Burrow. We’ll wait to see where Tua Tagovailoa goes. We’ll also wait to see if any of the tech woes make this draft a wild one.

But in terms of having sports back in our lives? This is a nice little taste, sure. But I fear it’s not going to be what we desperately need it to be.

Hopefully all of that is back soon.

Because I’m starting to lose it.
