Garret Guillemette stepped up to the plate in a tie ballgame after Texas’ bullpen gave up a six-run lead. The Longhorns catcher picked up his pitching staff by launching a no-doubt walk-off home run over the left field wall.
Guillemette’s ninth-inning heroics gave Texas the 9-8 victory and a weekend sweep over No. 14 Texas Tech. In back-to-back games, Texas broke Red Raider hearts with a walk-off victory.
Texas’ bats crushed five home runs in the win. Peyton Powell got the Horns on the board with a two-run shot in the first inning. Powell would add another bomb later in the game.
Freshmen Rylan Galvan and Jared Thomas each went yard to help Texas’ offensive effort.
Texas’ win streak now sits at 14 games following the slow start to the season. David Pirece’s squad now finds themselves knocking on the door of the national rankings.
