Texas Tech will be without their leading rusher to open Big 12 play.
It was confirmed on Saturday morning that running back Tahj Brooks will not be available for the Texas matchup due to a “small leg injury.” This is a crucial blow for the Red Raiders, considering Brooks was averaging 8.1 yards per attempt.
Through the first three weeks of the season, Brooks rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns on 35 attempts. For reference, those are comparable numbers to Texas running back Bijan Robinson.
Earlier this week, Brooks was one of the primary players to watch that had the chance to expose Texas in Week 4. The converted wide receiver would have also been dangerous in the passing game.
Confirmed that Tech RB Tahj Brooks is out today with what a source described to me as "a small leg injury." Could be a down a couple of weeks. Believe it was first reported by @craigway1.

When healthy, Texas Tech’s SaRodorick Thompson is a dangerous weapon in his own right, and is now expected to receive the bulk of carries against Texas with Brooks sidelined.
Thompson only has four carries this season (last week against Florida International) as he has been recovering from shoulder surgery. Backup running back Xavier White is also expected to receive carries.
