Texas Tech jumps to No. 6, OU and Texas still lead the Big 12 per the FPI

No changes among the top five in this week’s FPI update for the Big 12.

Week 6 is firmly on the horizon as College Sports Wire checks in on each conference with the updated Football Power Index from ESPN. This time we are checking in on the Big 12.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Oklahoma and Texas firmly holding onto the top spots in the FPI ranking. The Sooners are No. 2 overall in FBS behind Ohio State and Texas sits at No. 4 behind Alabama, despite the head-to-head victory over the Tide in Week 2.

OU’s win-out percentage moved from 20.1 to 22.8 after the win over Iowa State. Their percentage to win the conference jumped from 49.2 last week to 51.9. UT jumped from 12.4 to 14.2 in win-out percentage and 38.7 to 40.8 in terms of winning the conference. Kansas State remains the only other team with a greater than 1% chance to win the Big 12.

The computers have remained somewhat optimistic about the Texas Tech Red Raiders despite the slow start to the season. They beat up a bad Houston team in Lubbock to jump from No. 9 to No. 6 this week. The win knocked Houston from No. 13 to No. 14 in the update. The seat of Dana Holgorsen is starting to warm as his team continues to lose games.

Here is how ESPN breaks it down:
