Texas target, four-star WR Dont’e Thornton announces commitment date

Four-star wide receiver Dont’e Thornton is one of the top uncommitted players in the 2021 recruiting class.

Four-star wide receiver Dont’e Thornton will be announcing his commitment on Tuesday.

Thornton is one of the top uncommitted players in the 2021 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound receiver out of Baltimore Mount Saint Joseph is a highly-touted top 100 prospect in his class.

The sure-handed playmaker is the No. 2 overall rated receiver in the state of Maryland according to 247Sports Composite. He announced his top six potential suitors in May, but later added Texas to the short list last month.

Arizona State, Oregon, USC, Notre Dame, Florida State, Virginia and Texas are each finalists to land Thornton. However, 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions currently list Oregon as the frontrunner.

“The offense I am going to be playing in (is vital),” Thornton told 247Sports. “Then, if the coaches are actually going to be there and knowing the program has a great family atmosphere, like the coaches and the players, and the players and the players, so knowing if I went there I would always have someone there for me.”

Unfortunately for Texas, head coach Tom Herman’s future in Austin is currently up in the air after suffering back-to-back conference losses in unacceptable fashion.

The All-American selection, nation’s No. 6 receiver will be announcing his decision on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. ET.
