Texas is averaging more points per game than any other college football program this season.
This is primarily due to the Longhorns scoring more than 50 points in two of the three games played thus far. In the season opener against UTEP where quarterback Sam Ehlinger threw for five touchdowns in the first half, Texas managed to put 59 points on the board.
Nearly two weeks ago, Texas scored a whopping 63 points against Texas Tech to begin conference play. The only game that the Longhorns did not surpass 50 points was versus TCU. However, Texas still managed to score over 30 points in that contest.
According to FOX Sports, Texas is averaging 51 points per game.

While it’s certainly an eye-catching statistic to sit atop the college football leaderboard for, it hasn’t translated to results on the field. Texas is coming off of an unexpected conference loss to TCU.
The Longhorns still managed to score 31 points in the loss to the Horned Frogs. Head coach Tom Herman clearly has a high-powered offense operating in Austin, but the defensive side of the ball continues to be their Achilles heel.
With a much tougher schedule ahead, Texas will likely have to continue to put a significant amount of points on the board due to their defense’s inability to get off of the field.
Prepare for another shootout this week against Oklahoma.
