Texas is heading into the 2020 college football season with essentially a brand new staff in place.
The only constants from a season ago are head coach Tom Herman, running backs coach Stan Drayton, defensive line coach Oscar Giles and offensive line coach Herb Hand. The remaining portion of the staff is comprised of new names that are eager to return the Longhorns to their former glory.
The offense will now be run by Mike Yurcich, who spent time with the Ohio State Buckeyes last season. Before his run in Columbus, he was the offensive coordinator for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Yurcich will be tasked with the many unanswered questions at the wide receiver position while also shuffling a three-headed monster at running back.
For defensive coordinator Chris Ash, he will be asked to improve a defense that is oftentimes a liability for the Longhorns. Over the last few seasons, Texas’ defense had the inability to create a consistent pass rush until the Alamo Bowl, where linebacker Joseph Ossai was a one-man wrecking crew. The change of scheme under Ash to increase pressure should also help with creating turnovers and giving their offense short fields to work with.
Texas certainly has their fill of new assistants who will need to step up to the plate. Which newly-hired coach is under the most pressure in 2020? The staff at Longhorns Wire makes their case.
